Process and other mysteries

These are some of the questions I am asked most often about my work. If there is anything else you want to know please get in touch!

DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?

I do. I send my prints and products via Royal Mail. If you would like an alternative, please contact me directly.

If you are outside the UK be aware of potential tax/customs charges that may be added and could be requested upon receipt of your order.

I am unfortunately unable to give you an idea of how much it could be per item/country as there is no reliable list of charges available so far.

Sketching & Carving

I sketch my idea directly onto the mount board, then use carving tools to cut away the parts I want to be dark

Gluing

I brush PVA glue where I want to lighter parts to be so that they resist the ink.

Varnishing

I apply a varnish to stop the mount board from soaking in the ink and to stop it deteriorating too quickly.

Printing

Using an etching press I print each item individually by hand. This process is repeated for each print.

Rubbing Down

I use a cloth to remove excess ink

I apply oil based ink

Drypoint is a type of etching onto plastic plates or tetra pak

Sketching

I sketch my idea.

Transfer & carving

I transfer the design onto a plastic plate and carve the lines that I want to appear.

Inking

I cover the plate with oil based ink

Rubbing Down

Using a cloth I rub the ink into the plate. This process also allows me to create areas of shadow and light.

Printing

Here I'm using a very small press, but for bigger images I use a bigger press.

Final Result

As with the other processes the ink takes several days to dry.

Linocut is a variant of woodcut where I carve the image I want to print into a linoleum sheet.

Sketching

I first sketch the image I want to carve, before refining it to simply the carving process. All my drawings and carvings are original artworks.

Transfer

The finalised sketch is transferred to Lino

Carving

The Lino is carved. The carved surface will appear white in the finished print, while the rest retrains the ink.

Printing

I apply printing ink and hand press every single print. It then has to dry for several days
