A medieval legend tells of a young hunter who spent many days searching for a unicorn in the deep forest. When he finally saw the beautiful creature drinking from a stream, he raised his bow but hesitated. The unicorn looked at him calmly and then stepped closer, showing no fear. Moved by its gentleness, the hunter lowered his weapon and let it go. He returned home empty-handed but wiser, saying that some treasures are too rare and pure to be captured.

This anecdote reflects the medieval belief that unicorns symbolised innocence, purity, and goodness.

For this new series of artworks, I have drawn deep inspiration from medieval bestiaries. Each illumination invites the viewer into a story where animals, both real and mythical, take centre stage, often serving as metaphors for human nature and behaviour.

The rich colours and luminous gold of these medieval manuscripts have inspired me to experiment with a variety of techniques, combining drypoint, linocut, and mixed media to create layered and evocative images.

I invite you to join me in the dreamlike world I have created, where imagination, symbolism, and storytelling come together
