Mythical seahorses, often known as hippocamps, were believed to be powerful sea creatures with the head and forelegs of a horse and the tail of a fish. In ancient mythology, they were said to pull the chariots of sea gods like Poseidon, symbolising strength, grace, and the mystery of the ocean. On old maps and nautical charts, these fantastical beings were sometimes illustrated in uncharted waters, serving both as decoration and a warning of the unknown. They captured the imagination of sailors and mapmakers alike, embodying the wonder and peril of the deep sea.
